Anita Ngai, Regional Head of Compliance Regulations Management at CitiBank, shares with WiFA her volunteer activities, how she supports female talent, and her experience with mentorship.

Tell us a little bit about yourself

I am the Regional Head of Compliance Regulations Management at Citi based in HK. Previously I have been in various client facing, risk, and compliance roles in China, Taiwan, and Korea. I also lead the strategic partnership effort of Citi Women’s Network.

The pandemic continues to bring new challenges into our homes and workplace. How are you adapting to these changes in terms of volunteering within your community or workplace?

Despite the pandemic, Citi Women’s Network continues to actively promote various diversity and inclusion initiatives such as industry events, leadership talks, mentoring, parenting, as well as community and wellness topics for both men and women in the firm. The key is ensuring the message we deliver is contemporary and relevant which requires extensive internal discussion and collaboration to generate material that delivers that right balance for our firm members.

Please provide an example where you have promoted/supported female talent.

We operate in an environment that promotes meritocracy and diversity. There is a very significant representation of females in our talent pool whose drive, commitment, and resilience have contributed tremendously to the organization. We are delighted to advocate and continuously promote our talent.

Mentors play an important role in the developments of many careers. If you have/had a mentor, what is the one take away message or inspiration that he/she passed on to you?

Try to broaden the network inside and outside of work. The networking relationships enable you to call on others for support, whether that is for advice, to obtain information, or to set up partnerships.
